New Material Award
Winners
Julia Veldhuijzen van Zanten
Julia Veldhuijzen van Zanten is the winner of the New Material Award 2014. For her graduation project at Design Academy Eindhoven, Julia Veldhuijzen van Zanten drew inspiration from the increasing numbers of elderly people who want to remain independent for as long as possible. That is why she focused on the emotional and ecological impact of a frequently occurring problem: one in four women and one in eight men around the world suffer from incontinence. The washable incontinence underwear by Julia van Zanten ensures a safe and dry feeling and is also environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Roos Meerman
Roos Meerman's Aera Fabrica project won the New Material Fellow 2014. The prize included a fellowship at Het Nieuwe Instituut that started with a one-month period (March 2015) in which Meerman continued her Aera Fabrica research in an open lab. During her research she also spoke to a broad network of designers, experts in materials and technology, researchers and representatives of industry.
